According to the Program for International Student Assessment in 2009, out of 34 countries, the U.S. ranked 14th in Reading, 17th in Science and 25th in Math. According to these scores, the U.S. ranked as average in the core subjects.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a few occupations that pay a median income of $75,000 or more included Computer Systems Analysts, Construction Managers, Civil Engineers, Biochemists, and Biophysicists.
For the year of 2012, the unemployment rates for those with professional degrees was 2.1% with an average salary of $1735.00 a week, while those with a high school diploma had an unemployment rate of 8.3% with an average weekly salary of $652.00. For those with less than a high school diploma, the unemployment rate was 12.4% with a weekly salary of $471.
Even in 2009, at the height of the recession, the unemployment rate for those with professional degrees was 2.5% with average weekly earnings of $1529.00.
